The ASCE Pittsburgh Younger Member Forum (YMF) provides an opportunity for young civil engineers to become familiar with the civil engineering community and get involved in ASCE early in their careers. The official age range is 35 and younger, but we welcome all those that are young at heart. The YMF allows younger engineers to build their professional network, give back to our communities, and interact socially. We strive to provide business contacts and create a bridge between the Student Chapters and the Section by encouraging students to join ASCE after graduation. In addition, the YMF provides younger members with recognition from their profession and their peers through awards, publication opportunities, and leadership positions.
The Pittsburgh ASCE YMF strives to foster an atmosphere of professional, social, and personal growth by affording young engineers opportunities for success in today's demanding engineering community.
Our long term strategic goals can be found here.
Message from the Past President
Welcome to ASCE Pittsburgh Younger Member’s Forum!
Hello! If you’re taking the time to read this then you must have at least the tiniest interest in this thing we call ASCE YMF Pittsburgh; which I must say is fantastic!
I got involved with ASCE because I enjoyed the focus on current events happening in the industry combined with networking opportunities with my peers, who had diverse life and work experiences. Plus involvement never looked bad on a resume or hurt a company’s marketing efforts! Having lived and worked in a more suburban region I have found it very fun to get involved with a larger “city” group that offers a plethora of opportunities to learn, network, and give back to the community. So weather you’re like me, a new comer to a big town, or if you are a born and raise yinzer and work or study in the Civil Engineering industry I’d love for you to check out one of the upcoming events listed under our calendar. If you want to dive right on in and become a member of ASCE you can do that with the simple online form on the National website. But of course the only requirement to participate in our events or general body meetings is to be young at heart! Membership just gets you a little discount, voting rights, and chance to run a committee *thumps up!* There are currently a few open seats on various committees which is a great way to be involved and creative, with minimal time commitment. Check out open opportunities here.
The ASCE blog, YMF Facebook page and archives also provide a great source of examples of what the YMF is truly about. If you have any questions or comments about the ASCE YMF please do not hesitate to shoot me an email at email@example.com.
Hope to meet you soon!
Erin, 2017-2018 Pittsburgh ASCE YMF President
